The ancient kingdoms of The Wheel are illuminated not by a sun, but by rollstars, great ovals of light that rotate around the hub in the sky. When they start going out, Sahaar’s world will never be the same. The little kingdom ruled by her grandmother is thrown into chaos: the ailing queen is deposed in a coup and Sahaar is forced to run for her life.
With a pet fox as her only companion, Sahaar follows the directions she receives in a mysterious message and travels to a location far outside the kingdom. There she meets Izumi, a girl with porcelain skin who has been asleep for hundreds of years. Izumi is a synthetic person, the product of technology that to Sahaar is like magic.
Pursued by bounty hunters and attacked by crazy machines who want to ‘clean’ her, Sahaar and her friends must journey beyond the boundaries of The Wheel and uncover the secret of the dying rollstars before the world descends into darkness forever.
Dumb Martian (to be published 2022)
Mars is an ancient world. It was once home to an advanced civilisation: mighty, proud and cruel. But that was long ago; all that remains now are ruins. At least that’s what the settlers from Earth believe.
Lellie travels the Martian canals with her father, an archaeologist, exploring the remains of the cities and tombs. Their mission brings them into conflict with pirates who scour the desert in giant airships, plundering the ruins for gold, silver and precious artifacts. The greatest prize of all is the City of the Dead, the fabled resting place of the high kings and queens of ancient Mars. It promises riches beyond imagination which people will kill to find.
When her father is abducted by pirates, Lellie sets out across the desolate landscape to rescue him. She teams up with a group of abandoned children who are, each in their own way, as lost as she is. And together they will follow a trail of clues that will lead them to the City of the Dead - and the not so dead Martians…
